Tungum have been in the pipework business for over 60 years - in the war years supplying Tungum Alloy tube and tube manipulations for installation in such famous aircraft as the Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster and Halifax.
This experience is now directed towards saving the customer time and money, by providing the complete pipework service.
The service starts with design advice, moves on to prototype and pre-production work and culminates in the provision of a complete kit of fabricated pipe assemblies, associated fittings, clamps, etc., all fully tested and ready for fitting on the production line.
Design Advice and Assistance
Pipework is often the last piece in the jigsaw puzzle; its design is not thought about until all other pieces are in place.
Pipework designs are often found to be inefficient from both a functional and a manufacturing perspective. Improved designs using common radius bends or, replacing expensive elbows by tight swept bends, often give improved flow characteristics, improved integrity through less joints, and last but not least, reduced cost.
Prototype Piping Service
Whilst work is principally carried out to customer drawings, we are able to offer a prototyping service. A skilled Tungum pipe fitter will run a set of master pipes on the actual job itself.
Design changes for ease of manufacture will often be suggested and incorporated during this process.
Pre-production Samples
Small quantities of pipe assemblies made by hand by experienced pipe benders will often be used to confirm the validity and accuracy of drawings. Once the pipe runs are confirmed, these samples are used to make accurate check and assembly jigs - each production part will then be checked against and assembled onto these jigs to ensure a perfect fit, first time every time.
Manufacturing Capabilities
Extensive range of tube bending equipment ranging from full CNC, through semi-automatic, to specialised hand bending machines. All bending machines are backed up by the latest non-contact measuring and checking equipment. We now also have the very latest bending technology from BLM, allowing us to offer pipes containing variable radius bends. See below for examples:
