Tungum Tube - 26 Years in Service
Wednesday 13th May 2009
Tungum tube has a long history of use in marine environments as it is highly resistant to sea water and its atmosphere. Tungum resists both stress and crevice corrosion to offer outstanding serviceability, even at intermittent duty in the highly corrosive ‘splash’ zone.
One such example of this type of application is the tube used aboard the 'Rockwater 1' diving support vessel, built in 1983, owned and operated by Subsea 7. The photos below were taken recently and show the tube in excellent condition. The tube shown is protected from the elements but in other areas it is not and it is still standing upto the salt water environment after 26 years!
