Oil and Gas
The oil and gas industry are turning away from the orthodox platforms we are used to seeing to FPSOs (Floating Platform and Storage Operations). Their main attraction is that being easier to move from one area to another they offer considerable operational savings. Presently there is a shortage of these and associated DSVs (Diving Support Vessels) and the shipbuilding industry across the globe are heavily involved in fulfilling the orders being placed to make up the shortfall needed for the exploration and production projects world-wide.
This year in particular has seen a surge in the number of vessels being built which has meant a heavy demand for Tungum tube. The application of our tubing into the offshore diving industry hinged upon the inherent safety of the material in oxygen lines and superior corrosion protection. Also builders of diving equipment have found that the ductility and ease of installation of Tungum tubing offer significant labour cost saving, when compared to stainless steel, which can be as much as 40% depending on the complexity of the system. A large saturation dive system may consist of maybe three chambers, a hyper baric lifeboat, a diving bell and its handling gear and control cabin. Such an outfit can consume in excess of 5 Km of tubing for the oxygen, mixed gas, air hydraulic and divers water heating system lines.

- Industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The CPV fittings provide not only leak proof sealing on potential hazardous gases but the ability to maintain the seal when subject to vibration. CPV's fittings are available with a wide range of rubber O ring seals to suit each specific application.
- Industrial gas filling applications. CPV's full bore globe valves are considered essential equipment by a number of large industrial gas filling companies where their tried and tested performance is relied upon. Used primarily as manual and actuated shut off valves in size ranges from 1/8" to 2" CPV at pressures up to 6,000psi. CPV also supply a complete range of butt and socket weld fittings to complement the valves.
Defence
Hydraulic and pneumatic pipes which consist of control lines, brake pipes, fuel lines and climatic control circuits. Tungum tube is used in these application because of its high strength, corrosion resistance, clean bore, high resistance to fatigue and shock. Also its ease of manipulation, installation, flushing and commissioning are other desirable benefits. Tungum produce the complete pipe, bent to drawing, with associated fittings, brackets etc.
Highly tolerance feed tubes for ice protection systems in the aviation industry used to carry an anti-freeze solution to the propeller hub to prevent “icing up”. Tungum have provided - engineering support, inspection tooling design and pipe manipulation.
Transportation
For over 20 years Tungum Ltd has supplied pipework systems to the Rail industry.
The industry has exploited our expertise in tube manipulation & their ability to build complex under-frame piping systems & grab handles for the vehicles interior.
Tungum specialise in manufacturing the pipe "looms" & "kits" in such a way that it allows the client to build their systems off dedicated trolleys or shadow boards delivered to the line side.
The hydraulic & pneumatic looms are generally for the braking, galley or toilet systems.
With continuous development, demands on the speed & the accuracy of parts being manufactured, Tungum are the ideal partner to push the boundary's of such operations.
Tungum also have an extensive range of bending machines & tooling that customers can utilise. This means that almost any hydraulic or pneumatic system that engineers configure, can be made. It also means that start up costs, capital expenditure & expensive maintenance, are not carried by the customer.
Medical
Patient Lifting Equipment such as hoists, bath transfer chairs, cradles, stretchers, and patient movers. - Tungum Ltd has provided design and engineering support, inspection tooling design, pipe manipulation, machining and welding assembly. Due to the highly critical nature of the use of this equipment Tungum has worked alongside its customers to develop working practises and procedures of the highest level throughout each stage of the manufacturing process.
Medical Equipment used in the decontamination industry has benefited from the expertise and capacity of Tungum’s pipe manipulation and welding facilities. The employment of simpler, more efficient methodology in the manufacture of handles and other parts has meant the customer now enjoys greater confidence in the supply of his parts together with a lower part cost than that offered by the previous supplier.
Marine
The commercial marine industry have made good use of Tungum tube in overcoming the corrosion problems they face. Roll on roll off ferries use it on the exposed lines associated with bow visors and bow and stern door ramps. This usage has also spread to Tungum being used the hydraulic systems on link spans, which once built are often buried or inaccessible. Design and Installation Engineers in this sector are often asked to guarantee a system for 25 years but will only do so if the system is a Tungum one. A major mechanical services consultant has given their own 50 year guarantee on a hydraulic system for the Colne river barrage near Colchester. A current example of this type of installation would be the Link span at the Holyhead ferry terminal.
